2009 GE EMEAI Conferences

Die diesjährige 2009 GE EMEAI Conferences (Smallworld User Conference) fand vom 04.-06. März 2009 in Sorrent in der Nähe von Neapel statt.

CISS TDI war mit zwei Beiträgen aktiv auf der Konferenz vertreten: Vortrag mit dem Titel "A Framme to Smallword Migration and the set-up of a Geodata Warehouse - Two Projects based on the CITRA Technology" und Workshop zum Thema "CITRA - A Strong Geodata Translation Tool in a Smallworld Environment".

Vortrag: A Framme to Smallword Migration and the set-up of a Geodata Warehouse - Two Projects based on the same CITRA Technology
The GIS-project at Herten was decisively influenced by the complexity of /Herten group/ corporate structure: e.g. Hertener Stadtwerke GmbH as local utility, city of Herten and Zentraler Baubetriebshof (civil engineering, traffic, transport, others), all impacting geodata infrastructure.
The constant growth of available geodata and their utilisation in the different departments made the reorganization of geodata management at Herten group mandatory. Contemporary IT-structures for providing services and geo information supply inhouse and to external third parties, indicated the implementation of a classical warehouse, supplemented with geodata content.
The geodata warehouse introduction at Herten started in 2006 and continues growing incrementally according to the priority of subtasks. This approach implies only marginal organisational, technical and financial risks, allowing stepwise improvements instead of radical changes.
CITRA, a product widely spread in Germany and international markets, is being used for the ETL processes.
The presentation shows the Smallworld integration with the geodata warehouse.
The data is published in common OGC-SFO conform data models into an Oracle database. Smallworld and other GIS technologies can access the data independantly of the original data source, while GeoXtension can be used for data publishing.

Workshop: CITRA - A strong Geodata Translation Tool in a Smallworld Environment
CITRA is a common ETL and GIS translation tool. The development started in 1987 and today there are several thousand licences mainly in the German market, but also it’s proliferation in the international market is strongly increasing.
CITRA’s strengths are its complex data modelling tools. In the workshop the concept and workflow will be demonstrated in a live demo.
Thereafter in the example project “city of Bautzen”, a migration from Framme to Smallworld, will be shown how complex translation tasks can be solved and data quality can be improved, regarding geometry, attribute data and topology in a way, that they can be used without any restriction in the utility fachschalen.
Finally a live demo shows in the example project “city of Herten” how Smallworld is integrated in a geodata warehouse. The major data sets are produced and updated in a Smallworld GIS. The data are published in common OGC-SFO conform data models in an Oracle data base, and will be used then by several other GIS technologies e.g. MapInfo, ESRI and Autodesk. Vice versa the data published by the other systems can be used by the Smallworld technology. The workshop also shows the direct access from GeoXtension to the warehouse.
